Pathological or degenerative myopia is quite different from the simple refractive myopia or nearsightedness that affects so many people around the world. Pathological myopia is an extremely high amount of myopia (more than -10.00 D) that causes a major alteration of the shape or globe of the eye, which may lead to profound vision loss.

Eyes with pathological myopia has a very high chance of developing sight threatening eye diseases. At iSight, we suggest an annual comprehensive eye examination with dilated pupil to monitor changes in the retina. Also a high myopia assessment including optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual field is highly recommended for baseline reference and future comparisons.
